Read the date before the headline

The two briefs below separate the date of our summary from the date on an organizer’s announcement. A future event can be worth revisiting even when its original announcement is older.

Football calendar briefing

Champions League: UEFA’s 2026/27 league-phase schedule begins with matches across 8–10 September. The opening programme includes Porto against Manchester City and Real Madrid against Inter on 8 September. This is a schedule summary, not confirmation of a final score.

Women’s World Cup: FIFA set the Brazil 2027 tournament window for 24 June–25 July 2027. The Council announcement was published on 10 December 2024; our dated recap does not present that older announcement as breaking news.

Reading the record

Four dates and labels to check

Date labels prevent an older event from appearing current merely because its report was updated or rediscovered.

  • Event date — when the reported sporting event or decision occurred
  • Publication date — when the report first appeared
  • Updated date — when a material revision was published
  • Archive status — whether the article is historical and no longer current
  • Status label — confirmed, scheduled, completed, postponed, cancelled, disputed, or unconfirmed, when supported

What must accompany a report

General sports publications may help corroborate a story, while fixtures, results, standings, competition decisions, and participant status should be checked against the relevant organizer or governing body wherever possible.
